Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown, is a musical that has been captivating audiences since it's opening Off-Broadway in 1995. The musical is an abstract collection of songs connected by the theme of embracing the moment and living life to the fullest. This vocally demanding show stars four high-caliber singers and features a stellar quartet. The music is influenced by multiple genres including jazz, pop and gospel. Songs for a New World plays October 14 - November 6. .
Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys is a comedic story of two retired vaudevillian stars who are reunited by a fresh-faced theatrical agent for an upcoming TV appearance. The two have not spoken in over 12 years so needless to say there are a lot of skeletons to be cleaned out of their closets! Perhaps one of Simon's greatest plays The Sunshine Boys is a poignant look at human relationships complete with the sharp dialogue and strong characters Simon is known for writing. Plays November 13 - December 4. .
The hit comedy Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some!)by Michael Carleton, James FitzGerald and John Alvarez is back at The Herb Strauss Schoolhouse Theater! This chaotic, holiday hilarity delighted audiences last season and is back and better than ever! With new jokes, news twists on holiday classics and an unforgettable cast this show will get you in the holiday mood- and then some! If you love Shakespeare: Abridged you'll love the show that fits all your favorite classic (and not-so-classic) holiday stories into a hysterical sleigh ride of fun! Plays December 16 - December 31. .
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by William Finn, Rachel Sheinkin and Rebecca Feldman is making its Sanibel debut! In this fantastic new musical, six overachieving students are brought together to compete to be the spelling bee champion but, what they take away will be a lot more important than a trophy. Selected members of the audience may also get a chance to participate so make sure you brush up on your vocabulary! This 2 time Tony-award winning musical is not to be missed so make sure you book your tickets early! Plays January 15 - February 12. .
The master of farce, Ray Cooney, is back on stage at The Schoolhouse with It Runs in the Family. Dr. David Mortimer is about to face a tough crowd- 200 neurologists -for a presentation when in walks his former nurse, who he hasn't seen in 18 years. What she tells him will turn his life upside down: he has an 18 year-old son, who is downstairs in the lobby, in trouble with the police and who wants to see his absentee father. This farce is perhaps the funniest of the Cooney collection- audiences may remember seeing Run for Your Wife or Caught in the Net at The Schoolhouse during past seasons. Plays February 19 - March 26. .
Mangia! Eat, Laugh, Love is a musical by resident artistic director Victor Legarreta about family, music and the joy of eating. Join Legarreta and his talented cast as they sing and cook their way through an evening of fun the whole family can enjoy. Familiar Italian classics will have you singing along, tapping your feet and clapping your hands. At the end of the show enjoy a taste of the delicious food you'll see being prepared during the performance! Plays April 2 - April 30. .
PLEASE NOTE: Rehersal period begins 2 weeks prior to performance dates.
